Ghadi Eka Nahi Avade Tum Daras Bin - Lord, Without Seeing You, I Do Not Feel Happy Even For A Moment |
|
- O Darling Beloved Lord of my heart, without seeing you, I do not feel happy even for a moment. You alone are my life line, how can I possibly live without your joyous companionship?
- Without your constant presence within my heart, I can not eat or sleep. I am perturbed by your absence. I am roaming like a wounded female deer but no one knows my pain.
- My days are wasted in eating and nights in sleeping. My energy is wasted in despondency and eyes are damaged in crying.
- If I knew that love brings pain such as what I am experiencing, I would have openly and loudly announced to the world that no one should fall in love with you.
- I am anxiously awaiting your arrival while cleaning and preparing the road on which you might arrive. O Mira's Lord! When will you come and accept me as your Beloved because true happiness is in marrying You alone?
Commentary:
The dark night of separation of a genuine gopi is beautifully expressed by Mira's experience and examples in the above bhajan. This phase of devotion is an advanced stage when the Lord cleanses the soul of its final remaining impurities before betrothal and marriage. Without the Lord's help, it is impossible to survive pangs, such as the ones expressed above, which are true signs of fidelity to our only husband, the Lord of the Universe. If one successfully struggles with one's egotism during these days or years, whatever length our Lord deems necessary for our complete purification, then becoming one with the Creator is a certainty.
This final stage, variously known as Yoga, Moksha, Samadhi, Darshan, Self-realization, Nirvana, Unity-Oneness or Spiritual marriage, free from duality is the most blessed state. Mira, being the "Incarnation of God," speaks of various stages a soul has to go through from her own example, even though she was already born perfect. Her life experiences are for guidance rather than her own purification. Such pure incarnations are very very rare. Jesus and Shree Ramakrishna come to our mind as other such examples that inspire us to imitate them.
