Is it wrong to hate a person who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol? E-mail

Obviously a person who is under the influence of drugs, alcohol and things like that -- even pride and jealousy -- are not aware that they are wrong. If they thought it was wrong, they would not be doing it in the first place.

But it is never right to hate a person. Sympathize with the person. You can feel sorry, compassion or pity. There is no point in hating a person. In that case you lose your peace of mind. Do not let anybody else's behavior influence your behavior. When you are affected negatively because of another's behavior, you are the loser, not the other person. Whether the other person loses or not it is his own business. Why should you be a loser by getting affected by people around you?  Even if they are your nearest relatives or the dearest friends, it does not change the situation.

Do the best you can. If you are capable of helping, then do it. Otherwise stay out of their business and pray for the best. If there is an opportunity to help without getting involved or getting hurt, then it is okay. This is not easy. A person needs professional help if he is seriously sick with drugs and alcohol. Only the law, suffering, and some pain will teach them. We can pray that they come back to a normal life. We should never hate them, instead have compassion for them.
