Who am I? E-mail

This depends on what level we are at. Basically there are two levels we should be thinking of at this stage: a lower level and a higher level. At the lower level, we are body, mind, intellect, and ego.  This psycho-physical complex of humans is at the lower level. At the higher level is the atman, sprit or god.

What level you are at depends on the state of your consciousness -- how pure you are.  From an ignorant point of view we are only the body, mind, intellect, ego and all the identities that come with them, such as male or female, rich or poor, educated or uneducated, successful or unsuccessful, friend or foe, nationality, caste, creed, religion or profession. All that appears to be real but is constantly changing and is perishable. The spiritual aspect of ours, the Atma, is steady, eternal, unchanging, and imperishable. It must be recognized as by its own nature as a True Sprit, The Truth or God.

The Atma and body can be explained by taking the example of a coconut. A coconut has an outer hard shell that is necessary for the development of the inner, edible part. Eventually the outer part is discarded and the inner part utilized. Similarity the body is like the outer shell of the coconut and the inner seed is like the Atma. The body is thus less significant once the Atma is realized.

Wherever there is a discrepancy in understanding this difference, mankind has always done injustice to himself and to other creations. He has created segregation, misery and problems. All the same when he has realized the Atman, there has been unity, joy, and peace. Therefore we are part and parcel of God, and the Gita will teach us this very clearly.
