"It
(Atman) is the Eternal among non-eternals, the Intelligence of
the intelligent, who though being One, fulfills the desires of many. Those wise
seers who perceive It as existing within their own embodiment, to them only,
belongs Eternal Peace, and to no one else, none else." -- Katha Upanishad
Creation, as we see, feel, understand, experience and enjoy, is perishable or
non-eternal, It is constantly changing. All the organs, instruments,
senses, feelings, understandings, joys, etc. have the same characteristics as
its origin, Prakriti.
Yet its Creator -- Atman and Paramatman -- is Eternal. It is also the source of all
holy desires, as well as the cause of fulfillment of our holy desires, however
subtle they may be. As the eye cannot see its own source, which allows it to see, we also cannot see feel or understand that Creator, which is the source of our good desires and their fulfillment.
It is
the purpose of every human being to experience that eternal consciousness through Self Realization or Brahma Nirvanam. There is no other
way to find ultimate joy, peace or bliss. The truly wise ones from all times, places, and religions, who have realized their Self,
alone know and enjoy that Eternal Peace, but not those who play with their
non-eternal "toys." Since non-eternals can't lead us to the Eternal, we must remove the clouds of ignorance,
arrogance and vanity that cover our ever-shining Atman. After the removal of
this cloud, the Atman within us shines and the game is over -- no more duality
or birth and death cycles.
The Upanishads, Brahma Sutras and Shreemad Bhagvad Gita
focus on Self Realization through the practice of Universal morality known
as Yama and Niyama. There is no short cut or bypassing morality.
May the
grace of our Creator, the Lord, the God, Brahman, or whatever name we choose to call It, bless us with pure intelligence so we may fulfill our
singular goal of Self Realization in this very life.
