"O Lord of lords! You are my only refuge and
the only object of adoration with love. You are the one and the only cause of
Universe which is your own manifestation in infinite forms (all that is seen,
conceived and beyond the grasp of men and women). You are the Creator (Brahma),
the Preserver (Vishnu) and the Destroyer (Shankar) of the Universe. You are the
Supreme (Power and Existence), the Immovable and the Absolute (beyond which
there is nothing)." --
Mahanirvanatantra
This
prayer from a humble devotee expresses all that we need to know, pray and
execute. If the Lord is everything, why do we move around with pride, anxiety,
arrogance, jealousy and the hoards of evil that cause us pain and
suffering and keep us away from love, bliss, peace and the joy of Creation?
How can our ego serve us or take us to the Lord?
The three different lords described
here are nothing more than manifestations of God's various powers. There is only one
Lord behind a number of such manifestations. Therefore, let us love all such
forms without losing sight of the real power behind all of us.
When
praying, try to understand the meaning of each and every word. By pronouncing
the prayer slowly, we must relate them to our own life and behavior. This will help
in our efforts to purify ourselves. And, above all, it will humble us by making us aware of
our nothingness, and that's the first step toward realizing our
Infinite-Self.
