Only the perfectly unattached and pure can be real workers, for they alone do not work like slaves driven by their personal affections and aversions, and they alone do not bring bondage, delusion and attachment to others.
Real freedom consists in freedom from love and hate and from
affection and aversion, as well as in perfect sense-control and
mind-control. As soon as the body and mind are really controlled, we
feel even physically that life is worth living, because it is then that
we cease to be slaves and puppets of personal love and desires, and are
able to rise to the true stature of a human being.
If the
aspirant steadily tries to feel the Divine Presence within and to
forget everything else but God, no great dangers will arise from people
or objects. Temptations will drop off until they leave him for good.
